25th July 2016 - World Archery - Use of Bjorn target faces at events

World Archery have advised Archery GB that the partnership between World Archery and Bjorn Bengston Sweden AB has terminated, therefore target faces from this manufacturer are no longer accepted by World Archery.

As from 1 August these target faces cannot be used for World Record or Arrowhead status events. This does not affect club and UK record status events.

Request from Bowmen of the Tors

I am trying to trace who signed for a Tors Trophy at last year’s shoot on behalf of Harry Wakeley who was a member of Plymouth Archers, pre Totnes . It was a Trophy marked with a “B” either  on the back or base. We do not appear to have it back, and Harry does not have it. If you know about it, could you ring me on the above number, so I can chase it. The initials on the return slip looks like JP and it has been signed, but I cannot read the signature. Also, following the “Agincourt” Shoot last month we appear to be missing a clipboard marked No. “12” . If anyone who shot longbow on the 13th April at ‘Tors, could you please check your kit to see whether it has got in there by mistake. Again, please ring me on the above tele.number. Many thanks – look forward to seeing some of you on Sunday.

Stolen Equipment

Hoyt Eclipse blue handle 25" with hoyt gold medallist 70" limbs, 34lbs I think. Has an AGF button, beiter clicker, ACE extender and limb savers I think. Kristine's bow was a red hoyt gold medallist 25" handle with 66" hoyt carbon limbs. I think the limbs were 32/34lbs. She had a cartel button on it. The compound was the one I bought off Kane, think it was a merlin max 2000 grey/silver bow, was wound up to 58lbs but not sure on the exact details of the bow.

If anyone hears of any of this equipment for sale, please can they contact Pete Smith - petewillsmith@hotmail.com

Can you help?

GWAS are in need of a new Secretary.  For more information, please read this plea from the GWAS Chairman.

Bowmen of the Tors Open Shoot

TO ALL ARCHERS WHO WE HOPE ARE GOING TO ENTER OUR OPEN SHOOT ON SUNDAY 18TH MAY 2014

Following advice re Archery GB overshoot regulations, we have been asked to advise anyone over shooting on the longer distances may not be able to retrieve their lost arrow if it lands in the scrub over the top of the Bank on the field. This could apply to all bow disciplines, but especially compound bows... Please do not let this put you off entering.

Field Captains Course

A Field Captains Course will take place on Saturday 29th March at Barnstaple. The course will start at 9.00am and is anticipated to finish by5.00pm.

We appreciate that Barnstaple is a long way from some of you. We do intend to offer further courses in the future, at venues around the two counties, but the dates of these depend on the availability of Judge presenters and I'm not able to give any guidance on when these might be.

To apply for a place on the course please complete this form and return the completed form to Phil Gillbanks (not to me!) at the address on the form. Clubs can apply for more than one place, but if the course is oversubscribed then clubs may be asked to withdraw some candidates to spread the benefit.

The cost will be £10 per head which should be paid in advance, as soon as you are notified that your application, with the number of places, has been accepted.

Subject: Flooding and Storm Damage - Information needed please

Dear John, Malcolm and Sean,

I am writing to ask for your help if you know of any club that has suffered flood or storm damage Sport England has announced a special £5 million flood relief fund to help recover pitches and repair sports facilities damaged by the recent floods and storms.

The main fund opens on 24 March and there is an opportunity for emergency funds where applicable. For further information on this fund can be found by clicking here.

As County Secretary and County Development Coordinators you may know of clubs that may be affected and if you aware of any please could you let me know by return email as soon as possible.

We will be working closely with Sport England to help support clubs that may be eligible for this funding.

(Please note that there are other funding opportunities open as well – including Small Grants (up to £10,000 for equipment, coaching courses, facility hire); Protecting Playing Fields; Inspired Facilities (opens in March 2014). More funding opportunities are detailed in the Handy Guide to Funding available to download from the Archery GB website: http://www.archerygb.org/support/clubs/funding.php and of course I would be more than happy to talk to any club about funding, club development and improvements. Please pass on my details if applicable.)

Kind regards,

Arran
