A message from our CCO, Malcolm Grant

Hi,

For those of you that don't already know - since the November DCAS AGM I have been in the position of the CCO for DCAS.

In my role as the County Development Coordinator for Devon I called a meeting of Devon clubs back in June last year.

The title of the meeting was "Motivation, Development and Funding". Not as many clubs as I would have liked turned up but there were enough to make a start.

By the end of the meeting we had reached a collective agreement that there were a couple of actions to be taken. Both these actions revolved around improving the confidence and motivation of coaches here in the county.

Action 1 was to organise an all day practical workshop for coaches based around the "Drills and Skills" concept. I succeeded in arranging two excellent coaches to deliver this session. Graham Williams from Cheltenham and Mark Ricketts from Bath.

This was held on the 18th October and was a really successful workshop attended by around 20 coaches.

As it was well received, another similar workshop was organised for the coaches in Cornwall on the 28th February 2015.

Action 2 was to try to arrange a weekend workshop delivered by Danielle Brown MBE.

The first half day workshop entitled " Performing Under Pressure" was delivered to DCAS Coaches on the 7th February 2015

The next days workshop on the 8th February was open to the DCAS Senior Squad.

I have started to arrange another workshop which is scheduled to be held on the 18th October 2015. This will be a workshop regarding Compound Equipment and will be delivered by Wales Archery Specialists.

In the meantime Supermarine Archers at Swindon have organised another workshop, also being delivered by Wales Archery Specialists. This time it is about Recurve Equipment and is due to be held on the 31st May 2015. See the details at this link:

I have started the process of organising a Level 2 Coach Course to be run in Cornwall starting in October 2015. At the moment I have more than enough expressions of interest from prospective candidates. However, I am expecting places to be taken up by Level 1 Coaches that have evidenced that they are genuinely actively working towards gaining CPD points as well as evidencing a really good appropriate working log.

If you feel you fit this criteria and wish to be on the list, please let me know.

I have also been asked by about four people to date if there is to be another Level 1 Coach Course. Again please let me know if this is wanted.

Can I stress that some of us are working towards building confidence and raising standards amongst coaches here in the south west as well as trying to build a network of support and development.

A meeting to discuss the way all in GWAS want to progress coaching is being held near Taunton on the 9th May 2015. This meeting is another opportunity for you to gain CPD points.

I have personally e-mailed all the coaches on my list. If you are not receiving my e-mails please contact me and bring me up to date with your correct contact details.

I can be contacted at: archerygbcoach@talktalk.net

Please take part and help yourselves and each other towards building a better coaching structure.
